Undergraduate Class at California College of the Arts, Fall Semester 2025
I will teach Senior Project/Junior Tutorial at California College of the Arts starting September 3. The class is for seniors and juniors who are preparing for their Senior Exhibitions or Junior Reviews. Students learn about exhibitions and professional practice while they create work for their show/review.
Creative Process Class at CCA Extension, Fall
I will be teaching my creative process class, Creative Process for Artists: Exploring Process, Building a Language, in person with California College of the Arts Extension in November/December. The class meets five times on Tuesdays - November 11, 18, 25, December 2, and 9 from 5:30-8:30pm. Open to all artists with at least two years of art making experience. Students must be 18+ years or older at the start of the class. The cost is $325.
“The creative process is about how artworks come to life and includes five steps: gathering inspiration, idea generation and development, preparation, creation, and reflection. Every artist has a unique process, and understanding yours can be a helpful tool for making stronger pieces and for dealing with studio challenges. In this 5-week course, students will learn about the creative process, and they will begin to discover and define their own.
Each week, different aspects of process will be introduced and considered through demonstrations and conversations, hands-on exercises, simple writing prompts, and work time. Hands-on exercises are focused on exploring composition using mixed media from common art materials to office supplies to everyday ephemera. Writing exercises are short and do not require advanced writing skills. Group instruction will be complemented by opportunities for individual instruction. Students should also expect to spend some time working outside of class.
This class is a chance to deeply consider how you make your work and why you create in the ways that you do. It’s also a great opportunity to reinvigorate your practice if you’ve been feeling stuck or feel ready to explore new territory and are unsure where to begin.”
Past
Where Have All the Flowers Gone Exhibition
My dimensional collage, Accumulation, is part of Where Have All the Flowers Gone?, a group exhibition at EXiT at Catharine Clark Gallery, which opened May 3. The show includes works by Lenka Clayton, Arleene Correa Valencia, Timothy Cummings, Reniel Del Rosario, Michael Hall, Julie Heffernan, and Josephine Taylor. On view through August.
Jewellery in the Woods with Galerie Beyond
The open-air group exhibition Jewellery in the Woods will take place August 16 and 17 at the home of Karin and Rene of Galerie Beyond in Kapellen, Belgium.
“The forest environment is not merely considered as a backdrop but as an active partner in the aesthetic and conceptual experience. The site-specific presentation creates an interdisciplinary encounter in which the boundaries between culture and nature, between object and environment are blurred.
Here the jewellery manifests itself as an intermediate figure, neither completely natural nor completely artificial, but in constant negotiation with its context. Jewellery in the Woods invites the viewer to slow down and contemplate. The exhibition encourages a new approach to the way we perceive jewellery - as carriers of ecological, cultural and affective meanings within a broader discourse on art, place and time.”
