New Year, New Job!

I will be teaching two classes at California College of the Arts starting this week. In the Jewelry and Metal Arts class, Connections and Contradictions, students will begin to develop more complex ideas as they move beyond the basics to more advanced techniques. We will focus on one form of jewelry (earrings, necklaces, brooches, etc) as we move from unit to unit and at the end of the semester, each student will have a collection of pieces that cover a range of techniques and contemporary themes. Then in Senior Project, I will help a group of students in painting, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, print media, jewelry, and more to develop their senior shows while teaching professional development. They will leave the class with solid exhibition experience and a tool kit complete with a print and digital portfolio, CV, statement, bio, website, and business cards.

I am so excited about both classes! I love teaching idea generation and helping students navigate the how of being an artist. Iā€™m also excited to work with Curtis Arima and Marilyn da Silva, professors in the JMA Program, who have been a part of my metals life since I was a visiting artist at CCA ten years ago. And, of course, CCA is my alma mater, and it will be wonderful to be back in that community.

Thanks for reading.
