New Year, New Job!

I will be teaching two classes at California College of the Arts starting this week. In the Jewelry and Metal Arts class, Connections and Contradictions, students will begin to develop more complex ideas as they move beyond the basics to more advanced techniques. We will focus on one form of jewelry (earrings, necklaces, brooches, etc) as we move from unit to unit and at the end of the semester, each student will have a collection of pieces that cover a range of techniques and contemporary themes. Then in Senior Project, I will help a group of students in painting, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, print media, jewelry, and more to develop their senior shows while teaching professional development. They will leave the class with solid exhibition experience and a tool kit complete with a print and digital portfolio, CV, statement, bio, website, and business cards.

I am so excited about both classes! I love teaching idea generation and helping students navigate the how of being an artist. I’m also excited to work with Curtis Arima and Marilyn da Silva, professors in the JMA Program, who have been a part of my metals life since I was a visiting artist at CCA ten years ago. And, of course, CCA is my alma mater, and it will be wonderful to be back in that community.

Thanks for reading.

Launch!

I made a new website!

For the past two months I've been working on a new website, and it's finally ready. I feel sure I've got some more fine-tuning to do and typos to catch, but the content is there, and it wants to be seen. I hope you'll take a look around.

This site has been on my list for some time. Though I really liked my old one, its design was basic and did not offer features like a blog or mailing list. I couldn't have separate sections for my visual art and my jewelry either. The new site has separate sections for the different kinds of work I make and a "News & Events" section. There's also a mailing list sign up and a blog. Yes, a blog. Remember those things? You might remember the blog I used to keep but stopped when I went to grad school. I would like to try picking up that practice again, and I'm considering a newsletter, too. (I don't really have a mailing list and know I should.) I'm also thinking about a shop and with this more robust site, I can easily set one up when the time is right.

I'm interested in the idea of a beautiful, virtual space that serves as a hub for what I do. It seems like websites are no longer the go-to, but I prefer them to other online platforms, especially when they are full of great images and info. In general, I've been reconsidering the different ways I share my work with all of you, and I like the idea of returning to some older methods. I'm not interested in posting IG reels or stories, nor being on Tik Tok, but I do like thoughts of blog posts or bi-monthly or seasonal newsletters.

If you have a moment, please take a look and while you're here, I'd love for you to add your name to my mailing list. (Find it in the "Contact" section.) And, let me know what you think of the whole thing... or if you spot a misspelled word! I'm sure there's at least one!

Thanks for reading.
